Sean discovered a fascination for physics when he was just fifteen, when he proof-read a friend’s report on black holes. In one semester, he read every physics book in his school’s library. He was hooked, but his love of teaching came a bit later.
SAM UBER
The past nineteen years of teaching has provided him the opportunity to learn and grow alongside students in the United States, Mexico, Ecuador & Venezuela. During that time, he taught all subjects to many different age groups but has always had a special place in his heart for math.

I believe that the motivation to practice mathematics must be discovered by the individual, and I am excited to watch my students discover what it is about mathematics that gives it purpose to them.

Still teaching as his primary form of income and loving every minute of it. When he is not talking math with students he spends his free time surfing, sailing, exploring, and concocting meals to pass the time.

Angelique has had two passions both of which she has been lucky enough to study and work in professionally. The first is teaching mathematics, the second is Opera.

Wilder is currently pursuing his Master’s in Physics from San Francisco State University. In his free time, he likes to run, snowboard, travel, and play with Legos.
FELIX ROJAS
With a B.S degree in Chemistry from The Central University of Venezuela, he started delving into physics and mathematics to take on one of the most fascinating areas of knowledge, Quantum Mechanics, and the application of its concepts in the atomic and molecular world.
ALEXANDER SHEYNIS
Between spaceships, lightsabers, and the mystical powers of the Force (which one later finds out is a fundamental concept that drives all of physics... not the mystical part but the force part), a young boy’s imagination was stolen.

Elementary School
We tutor elementary students from Redwood Day, Bentley School, Berkeley Rose Waldorf, and Head-Royce School. Alexander Tutoring understands that younger students get frustrated with math. Many times we hear "I suck at math". We’ve found this attitude stems from an event in which the student felt embarrassed.
Typical events include
- Being called to the front of the class while not knowing the answer
- Placement in the wrong math class
- Changing schools
- An injury or life event that interrupted math class
From that event, a narrative begins that creates doubt in a student’s mind. A frustrated student shuts down when it comes to learning math. They simply decide it’s not going to happen.
We change the narrative by matching your student with a real physicist or mathematician. Someone with professional research experience that can explain complex skills at a basic level to younger students. When your student becomes relaxed and confident, real education begins.
At the elementary level, we aim for complete confidence and understanding. Our focus is addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions. Our goal is to provide a solid foundation in mathematics on which to build. Sessions include mini-tests, quizzes, and other useful drills to enhance confidence, knowledge, and retention.
Middle School
We tutor middle school students from Julia Morgan School for Girls, St Theresa School, and Bishop O'Dowd. At the middle school level, it’s important to establish skills to prepare for high school.
Grades 6, 7, and 8 introduce a whole new layer of math:

- Order of operations
- Proportions

- Substitutions
- Measures of central tendency and variability.
It’s vital students master these skills before high school. Mastery of these topics will set the student up for success in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, and calculus.
Many students memorize steps in place of intuitive insight. They are asked to memorize an equation without knowledge of its origin. Our method derives every equation used. That is where the magic of math lies. By deriving each equation, the student gains insight into the foundations of mathematics. They learn that mathematics is the language of our universe. By going deeper your student will have an excellent foundation for high school math classes.
High School
We tutor high school students from Sacred Heart Cathedral, Maybeck High School, College Prep High School, and Athenian. Mathematics expands to a whole new level in high school. High school students must master algebra before delving into more advanced math.
Algebra is the gateway to geometry, trigonometry, calculus, precalculus, and physics. Our tutors focus on core concepts like:

Mathematics is the language of the natural universe that you live in. We strive to teach math in that way to each student. Why? Because it’s awesome!
