Elementary School

At this age the math itself is rarely the problem. What we see instead is a story a student has started telling themselves — “I’m bad at math” — and it almost always traces back to a single moment: being called to the board without the answer, a placement in the wrong group, a school change mid-year, an illness that interrupted a unit.
We change that by matching your student with a real mathematician or physicist — someone who can explain a concept five different ways until one lands. Our focus is addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions, reinforced with mini-tests, quizzes and low-pressure drills that build retention without building dread.
Middle School
Yes. We work with Boston-area middle schoolers at schools like Boston Latin Academy, TechBoston Academy, the Carroll School and the Landmark School, where curricula are rigorous and students are often preparing for competitive high school placement.
Grades 6 through 8 introduce a whole new layer of math — equations, integers, order of operations, proportions, percent, decimals, substitutions, and measures of central tendency and variability. These have to be solid before high school. Mastery here sets a student up for algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus and calculus.
Many students memorize steps in place of intuitive insight — asked to memorize an equation with no knowledge of where it came from. Our method derives every equation we use. That’s where the magic of math lies: a student who understands the derivation isn’t memorizing anymore. They’re reasoning.
