Math and Physics Tutors Who Know Seattle Schools
Your student isn’t “bad at math” — one bad experience convinced them they were. Our specialty is rewriting that narrative into one of confidence, wonder, and joy.

Everything changes when math empowers students

It’s not tutoring. It’s becoming. Behind every “I’m bad at math” is a student who stopped believing they could figure it out. That belief is the real problem — and it’s the one we solve.

The Alexander Difference
Passion + Purpose = Empowered
When math serves your student’s passion, it has purpose. When it has purpose, something remarkable happens — they become empowered to use education to achieve their dreams.
Personalized Matching = Student Passion
We start by learning what lights your student up — music, sports, art, science, anything. Then we match them with a tutor who shares that passion and shows them how math is the hidden engine behind the things they already love. When math serves something they care about, it stops being a chore.
Deep Understanding = Purpose
Most students survive math by memorizing formulas — until one curveball on the test sinks them. We teach the why behind every equation, deriving formulas and connecting them to the real world. When your student truly understands the math, they can solve anything a teacher throws at them.
Confidence First = Empowers Students
There’s no such thing as being ‘bad at math’ — only bad math experiences. A harsh teacher, embarrassment in class, one bad test — and suddenly your student decides they can’t do it. We rewrite that story. With a supportive tutor who believes in them, ‘I can’t’ becomes ‘I’ve got this.’
Everything changed for these families.
Thank you so much Sean for you help with Diego. He was able to bring his grade up and finished the semester with a B- (from an F). No more academic probation, he is moving on to 12th grade. Update 3 years later: My son is now at Seattle University, second year, doing really well and going to study abroad in Madrid next year!
My 14 yr old daughter took a month of weekly sessions to help prepare her for 9th grade geometry. She gained a lot from personal and targeted tutoring with Rebecca and as a parent I greatly appreciated the flexibility and timely and clear comms on setting up sessions, scheduling and pricing.
Caleb at Alexander Tutoring is patient, kind, smart, and his teaching style is a great fit for our daughter. In a short time, her test-taking confidence increased and her effort produced an outcome of boosting her final semester AP Calc grade. Caleb and team, thank you!
Virtual learning is not fun, generally, but Sam always connects well with my son personally and keeps him well engaged. We really appreciate his patience and his willingness and ability to meet my son where he is at in Math.
My child entered 6th grade struggling significantly in math, and it affected her self esteem as well as her engagement in school. After working with Angelique over the summer, she not only started 7th grade feeling confident, but has been excelling and advancing in math classes. Charley also made a strong connection with Angelique and is excited for their weekly sessions. Angelique transformed Charley’s attitude toward math and ignited a curiosity for more. All the staff at Alexander Tutoring is responsive, engaged, and committed to my child’s experience. I HIGHLY recommend
I actually had a few conversation with Sean before I enrolled my son into their programs. Sean was very patient and understood my concern. He assigned my son with Jonathan to do a one on one Geometry session in summer. My son usually gets bored easily and it's hard to capture his full attention. Jonathan did a fantastic job to attract his attention and able to challenge him plus boosting his confidence. My son was very happy with Jonathan. Our goal is to help him to get a solid foundation in summer so that he can master his honor class in fall plus the upcoming pre-cal class. The amount of homework was just right so that he spends reasonable amount of time in playing and working in summer. I strongly recommend Sean and Jonathan for Maths advancement.
We have been very happy with the tutoring our daughter has received from Felix who is one of their tutors. He is patient, smart and caring. Our daughter enjoys seeing him and always comes out of the sessions feeling upbeat. Felix takes the time to send us detailed emails about her progress and what they have been working on. Sean has been wonderful to work with, helpful with scheduling and increasing number of sessions when needed. Our daughter was struggling in Geometry and ended the semester with a B.
I had a great experience as a tutored student these past few months. I worked with Tyler who was extremely effective, to-the-point, and knowledgeable. I was really having trouble understanding how to translate a problem into understandable calculus, and Tyler helped me break down problems step by step so that I could more easily understand. My high school son has been working with Olivia at Alexander Math & Physics Tutoring for about 7 months and it has been nothing less than phenomenal! My son's confidence in Math as well as his grades have drastically improved and we could not be happier!! Also, Sean and Olivia have both been incredibly flexible in their attempts to accommodate our busy schedules. We are very grateful to have discovered Alexander Math & Physics Tutoring!
Sean and Olivia are amazing! The Advanced Pre-calc teacher for my daughter at school doesn't know how to teach, but giving just a lot of hard homework. My daughter had really hard time before we found Sean. Now, she is getting A for the class. She says Sean explains much understandable. My daughter loves to learn from Sean One on one. Olivia is also excellent teacher who can teach almost all subject. She is really helpful. We are really happy finding them!
"Sean taught me more in one hour than my teacher did all semester; I would like to keep seeing him," was the first thing my son said to me after his initial pre-cal tutoring session in March. Since then, my son's grades in the class have been excellent, but more importantly, he has a greater understanding of the subject and no longer feels the need to hide in class. I can't say enough great things about Sean, I have watched my son make an immediate switch from dreading math to having confidence. My only regret is that we didn't start in September!
I was referred to Sean by my daughters former Math teacher when she was having trouble transitioning from Integrated Math into Pre-Cal. She went from being an A math student her whole life to getting the first F she had ever received in any class. After working with Sean for a short time she made significant progress. My daughter has a learning difference, and Sean was able to work with her on strategies. In addition to helping her with the basics, he helped her re-gain her confidence. He was great about keeping me in the loop and addressing any concerns, and is very responsive. My daughter also enjoyed his teaching style and found him much more informative and helpful than her Pre-Cal teacher and the tutors provided by her school. He really helped us tackle and move past a horrible experience.
Alexander Math & Physics Tutoring already came highly recommended to us by our son's teacher but I could not have imagined the impact Tyler had on our son. A junior in High School he was struggling with Physics adding a lot of anxiety and stress to his school days. Our son strives in a 1-1 environment and Sean took time to talk to us about our needs and matched our son with Tyler. Tyler has helped him tremendously, not only understanding and mastering the material but discovering his love for Physics and Math in the process. After the first session with Tyler he came home and could not stop talking about Physics--he could not wait for the next session. He felt that Tyler totally got how he his brain works and was amazed how things all of a sudden fell into place. Tyler will accompany our son through senior year, without a question. Last week our son came home from a Physics class literally jumping up and down. He had been able to explain a process in class as one of the only ones because Tyler had explained it to him in an interesting conversation they had the day before. Moments like these are precious in building the confidence needed to succeed. Tyler is not only our son's tutor but also his mentor. Sean and Tyler have been very accommodating to our schedule--even setting up skype sessions while we were traveling in Germany. Both were in contact with our son's teacher to make sure they understood what was expected in the class. We can very highly recommend Tyler and Sean and his team.
Rebecca is a gem. My picky daughter learns her very best from her. I am beyond grateful for Rebecca and her flexibility, patience and teaching.
My daughter has been getting tutoring from Eon for several months now. He’s great. My daughter finds him funny and friendly. He has a way of explaining math that makes it easy and fun to do understand. She now understands math a lot better. He is also incredibly supportive and nice. My daughter always has a great time with him and looks forward to the sessions.
Olivia is a fabulous tutor who helped our child study for the SSAT. Our child has a complex learning profile which Olivia embraced. She patiently guided our child through many months of ramping up for the test. Olivia's calm demeanor helped reduce stress for both our child and us during this process. I would definitely recommend Alexander Tutoring and Olivia specifically to anyone.
My daughter loves Angelique and she’s literally getting 10 out of 10 on her math tests. This has never happened before!
Rebecca is smart, unfailingly kind, reliable, and relatable. My teen loved her tutoring sessions with Rebecca. She knows her stuff and really helps kids when they need it most.
I didn't end up using the service, although I really need the help $900 was too pricey for me. Their customer service is great.

The Seattle schools we know inside out
High school
Tesla STEM High School · International School · Newport High School · Interlake High School · Lakeside School
Middle school

Most tutoring gets a student through Friday’s test. That’s not what we’re for.
Your student learns where every formula comes from — so a problem they’ve never seen stops being a threat. They stop asking whether something will be on the test and start asking why it works.
What makes your math and physics tutors different?
Your student works with a practicing mathematician, physicist, or engineer — someone who uses this material professionally, not a college student a chapter ahead in the textbook. We recruit nationally because that’s the only way to find them.
What that means in practice:
- Tutors with graduate-level training and professional research experience
- A derivation-first method — nothing gets memorized that could be understood instead
- Nightly office hours, so homework help doesn’t wait for the next session
- More than 15 years of one-on-one tutoring, with 270+ reviews across Google and Yelp
- First-time A’s in Calculus and 700+ SAT Math scores
Our work in the Seattle area spans schools including Tesla STEM High School, International School, Newport High School, Interlake High School, Lakeside School, University of Washington and Seattle University.
Every session is one-on-one and online, which is why it doesn’t matter where you are. We match on subject, personality and interest rather than zip code. If the fit isn’t right, you get another match at no cost, as many times as it takes.
How do you match a student with the right tutor?
Nobody’s first session is really about math. It’s about finding out whether this person is going to make them feel stupid again.
Our tutors are matched on personality and interest before subject — a physicist who races bikes, a mathematician who plays in a band. When the match is right, a student stops bracing and starts asking questions. That’s the moment the tutoring actually begins.
If it isn’t right, you get another match at no cost, as many times as it takes. About 80% of our students click on the first try, 95% by the second.

Do you tutor elementary school math?
Many young students struggle with math not because they can’t do it—but because of a single discouraging moment: being put on the spot in class, getting lost after a school transfer, or just falling behind in a fast-paced classroom.
At Alexander Tutoring, we match students with real mathematicians and physicists who specialize in breaking down complex ideas into fun, accessible lessons. Our elementary sessions focus on:
- Addition & subtraction
- Multiplication & division
- Fractions
- Confidence-building drills and assessments
Once students feel safe and capable, math becomes fun—and progress follows quickly.
Do you tutor middle school math?
Key topics we focus on include:
- Algebraic expressions and equations
- Integers and rational numbers
- Ratios, proportions, percent
- Order of operations
- Central tendency & data interpretation
We don’t teach shortcuts. We teach understanding.
Our tutors emphasize deriving formulas and grasping mathematical logic, giving students the kind of insight that sets them apart as they move toward algebra and advanced math.
Which high school math and physics courses do you cover?
Students attending top-tier high schools like Tesla STEM High School, International School, Newport High School, Interlake High School, and Lakeside School encounter some of the most rigorous academic standards in the country.
To succeed in this environment—and prepare for college admissions—students must master:
