Math and Physics Tutors Who Know Dallas Schools
Your student isn’t “bad at math” — one bad experience convinced them they were. Our specialty is rewriting that narrative into one of confidence, wonder, and joy.

Everything changes when math empowers students

It’s not tutoring. It’s becoming. Behind every “I’m bad at math” is a student who stopped believing they could figure it out. That belief is the real problem — and it’s the one we solve.

The Alexander Difference
Passion + Purpose = Empowered
When math serves your student’s passion, it has purpose. When it has purpose, something remarkable happens — they become empowered to use education to achieve their dreams.
Personalized Matching = Student Passion
We start by learning what lights your student up — music, sports, art, science, anything. Then we match them with a tutor who shares that passion and shows them how math is the hidden engine behind the things they already love. When math serves something they care about, it stops being a chore.
“Sam has a really nice and easy communication style and once he found out that my daughter loves soccer he added a lot of soccer themes to his teaching (angles, corners, distance etc.). My daughter really liked his style and she was more than happy to continue with Sam as her tutor.”

Deep Understanding = Purpose
Most students survive math by memorizing formulas — until one curveball on the test sinks them. We teach the why behind every equation, deriving formulas and connecting them to the real world. When your student truly understands the math, they can solve anything a teacher throws at them.
“After the first session with Tyler he came home and could not stop talking about Physics… Last week our son came home from a Physics class literally jumping up and down. He had been able to explain a process in class as one of the only ones because Tyler had explained it to him in an interesting conversation they had the day before.”

Confidence First = Empowers Students
There’s no such thing as being ‘bad at math’ — only bad math experiences. A harsh teacher, embarrassment in class, one bad test — and suddenly your student decides they can’t do it. We rewrite that story. With a supportive tutor who believes in them, ‘I can’t’ becomes ‘I’ve got this.’
“Krishann has improved my daughter’s math skills, has also improved how she feels about math, and this translates to improving how she feels about herself as a learner… If they had their own school, we would enroll full time.”

Everything changed for these families.
Alexander Tutoring is really awesome! Our family and our student are really happy with the results from the summer tutoring program. Our tutor James was very pleasant. He explained each learning objective so it could easily be understood. He was also able to quickly identify target areas and offer educational tools and solutions. The program is very organized and hits the target - to increase interest, confidence, and ability in math. We have completed the summer program and periodically receive follow up lessons to keep our student's math skills on point. Our student is now a high school senior and feels confident in her ability to understand and do math. We definitely recommend Alexander Tutoring to other students who are challenged by math and/or are looking to advance in math. Thanks AT!
Gerald is a very nice, relatable, and down to earth individual. He really tries to make sure you understand topics. He’s not afraid to use other resources to help with my understanding. He’ll shift things to match what my son’s teacher at school shows. He’s calm and makes the entire experience something to look forward toward. Without Gerald, Stats would’ve been a total nightmare this year!!
James, my son’s tutor, has been great in supporting him through AP Calculus this year. My son enjoyed learning from James, as he was encouraging, and explained difficult concepts clearly, thereby helping him to improve his grades. We also appreciated how James was flexible in scheduling during AP exams and a power outage. Thank you, James!
Alexander Physics and Math Tutoring has been a fantastic partner to us for two of our kids in high school physics and middle school math. Both kids agree the extra help and attention on their school material made a big difference, because the tutors who took the time to get to know them and how they best learn. We saw the results in their test results and, more importantly, in their positive attitudes toward these subjects that had previously caused them stress. Special kudos for Rebecca and Gerald!
We discovered Alexander Tutoring via a web search and decided to give it a try because of the rave reviews. We were not disappointed! Jonathan has been teaching our 2 kids Math and Physics and his teaching approach, patience and attentiveness has greatly improved their interest in and aptitude for the courses! Jonathan is always punctual. His patience with the children encourages them to ask questions and he diligently takes the time to explain. My wife and I were a bit concerned about the schedule of the classes, because of the time difference between Africa and the West Coast. However, Sean was flexible and committed to finding a time that worked for both parties. We are really delighted to have found Sean and his team!
Set your kids up for success...the best advice one of my friends gave me was to start my son with Alexander Tutoring before he started his freshman year at an independent high school. My son was a progressive middle school and I was not really sure how he would fare with Physics and Algebra. Alexander tutoring was amazing in that Sean assured me that my timing was just right at the beginning of the school year and we engaged with Felix (my son's tutor) right away. My son and Felix meet on a weekly basis and even though..or more accurately because my son is getting As in both Physics and Math, we are keeping the tutoring going!
I worked with Tyler for an electrical theory class, he was able to clear certain things up for me more so than the teacher of the class. After only a few weeks I felt like I could actually help teach my class mates with what I had learned. I credit that to Tyler's ability to clearly explain the subject matter. Thanks again.
Great tutoring service. Tyler was a great tutor. I was struggling to understand concepts in my college Calculus class, and within just a couple tutoring sessions I was able to fully understand the material in class. He would help me go over the exams and really ensure that I understood the concepts behind the problems, and not just how to do them. Definitely recommend.
My daughter took AP Physics 1/2 at Lowell this past year and needed a tutor. Sean arranged for Olivia to meet my daughter regularly over the semester. Olivia was very knowledgable and gave thorough explanations. Rather than lecturing, Olivia was able to teach by discussing concepts with my daughter. As a result, my daughter really gained an understanding of physics and did very well in the class. Excellent tutor!!! Thanks Olivia!!!
Sean is outstanding. His approach really helped my son gain confidence with his math skills this year. Sean went out of his way to meet my son at a location that was a time-saver, a huge plus. Sean's responsiveness and accommodating way are additional reasons to recommend him.
Our daughter was tutored by Sean Alexander from August - December 2012. She enjoyed working with Sean and her grades improved dramatically. Sean was very good at keeping us (the parents) informed of how our child was progressing. I would highly recommend Sean Alexander.
The solution to the problem with Physics is Alexander Tutoring. My son is a Junior at a rigorous private high school in San Francisco, his teachers are quite good, and my 16-year-old is studious. So, when he asked me to find him a tutor, and mind you this was the first time he ever asked me for a tutor, I knew it was the topic itself that was down right difficult and my son needed a skilled tutor who knew the method to the madness that is Physics. Alexander tutoring came highly recommended by the learning specialist at my son's high school, and after speaking with Sean Alexander it was clear to me why a learning specialist would recommend the tutors at Alexander tutoring. They are not just brainiacs with Science and Math degrees, they use a specific method to teach the students that is the key to opening up the mystery of solving a Physics problem. Equally important is that my son (the critical teenager) has found his tutor Wilder to be approachable, patient, and motivating. Wilder verified for my son that yes indeed these were tough Physics problems, but that he, Wilder, would teach him how to approach Physics problems using the Alexander method, and that my overwhelmed Junior could handle these problems--no problem:-) As a mother, it is so gratifying to see my son tackle this tough topic--the semester grades are not in yet, but so far my son is doing better and better with each test. More important, he no longer thinks that this kind of abstract scientific thought is beyond him. As an educator with a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology , when I work with a student who is overwhelmed, over anxious, and struggling to learn, I understand that what is needed is to target the learning problem and apply a specific learning intervention tailor made for the learning problem. Alexander tutors get that and make a difference. One last thing of no little import--Sean answers his phone! He is at the ready when I call with a question, comment, thought, or concern. He communicates effectively, he responds actively, and he always follows through. Yes, the price is high, but my son is improving and I reckon he won't need tutoring indefinitely, so for right now it is well worth it.
Gerald has always done an awesome job in tutoring, Noah. Noah is getting the highest grade in his class and it’s building Lots of self-confidence. Thanks for all that you do and your excellent at it!
I want to recommend Alexander's program. My son is taking tutoring in Algebra 1 for 4 months and i have seen improvement and progress in math. He is in 9th grade and he feels very confident and exited to continue learning.
Alexander Tutoring is excellent. They were able to very quickly find a capable and helpful tutor for my college-sophomore daughter who needed help with Calculus before returning to school this fall. She found the sessions incredibly useful. Highly recommended.
In addition to regular tutor sessions, we really like the office hours offered from Monday to Thursday. When my kid needs additional help with home work, we don't have to stress about scheduling a last minute lesson.
We really appreciate Nicolas’s help for Hayden. She said he is diligent & very helpful. She is looking forward to his tutoring for the next school year. Have a great Teacher Appreciation Week! Hayden’s Family
Excellent. Flexible and helpful. My son had a great experience.

Most tutoring gets a student through Friday’s test. That’s not what we’re for.
Your student learns where every formula comes from — so a problem they’ve never seen stops being a threat. They stop asking whether something will be on the test and start asking why it works.
What makes your math and physics tutors different?
Your student works with a practicing mathematician, physicist, or engineer — someone who uses this material professionally, not a college student a chapter ahead in the textbook. We recruit nationally because that’s the only way to find them.
What that means in practice:
- Tutors with graduate-level training and professional research experience
- A derivation-first method — nothing gets memorized that could be understood instead
- Nightly office hours, so homework help doesn’t wait for the next session
- More than 15 years of one-on-one tutoring, with 270+ reviews across Google and Yelp
- First-time A’s in Calculus and 700+ SAT Math scores
Our work in the Dallas area spans schools including Highland Park High School, St. Mark’s School of Texas, Ursuline Academy, Jesuit College Prep, SMU, UT Dallas and TCU.
Every session is one-on-one and online, which is why it doesn’t matter where you are. We match on subject, personality and interest rather than zip code. If the fit isn’t right, you get another match at no cost, as many times as it takes.
How do you match a student with the right tutor?
Nobody’s first session is really about math. It’s about finding out whether this person is going to make them feel stupid again.
Our tutors are matched on personality and interest before subject — a physicist who races bikes, a mathematician who plays in a band. When the match is right, a student stops bracing and starts asking questions. That’s the moment the tutoring actually begins.
If it isn’t right, you get another match at no cost, as many times as it takes. About 80% of our students click on the first try, 95% by the second.

Do you tutor elementary school math?
Many young students struggle with math not because they can’t do it—but because of a single discouraging moment: being put on the spot in class, getting lost after a school transfer, or just falling behind in a fast-paced classroom.
At Alexander Tutoring, we match students with real mathematicians and physicists who specialize in breaking down complex ideas into fun, accessible lessons. Our elementary sessions focus on:
- Addition & subtraction
- Multiplication & division
- Fractions
- Confidence-building drills and assessments
Once students feel safe and capable, math becomes fun—and progress follows quickly.
