Math and Physics Tutors Who Know Denver Schools
Your student isn’t “bad at math” — one bad experience convinced them they were. Our specialty is rewriting that narrative into one of confidence, wonder, and joy.

Everything changes when math empowers students

It’s not tutoring. It’s becoming. Behind every “I’m bad at math” is a student who stopped believing they could figure it out. That belief is the real problem — and it’s the one we solve.

The Alexander Difference
Passion + Purpose = Empowered
When math serves your student’s passion, it has purpose. When it has purpose, something remarkable happens — they become empowered to use education to achieve their dreams.
Personalized Matching = Student Passion
We start by learning what lights your student up — music, sports, art, science, anything. Then we match them with a tutor who shares that passion and shows them how math is the hidden engine behind the things they already love. When math serves something they care about, it stops being a chore.
Deep Understanding = Purpose
Most students survive math by memorizing formulas — until one curveball on the test sinks them. We teach the why behind every equation, deriving formulas and connecting them to the real world. When your student truly understands the math, they can solve anything a teacher throws at them.
Confidence First = Empowers Students
There’s no such thing as being ‘bad at math’ — only bad math experiences. A harsh teacher, embarrassment in class, one bad test — and suddenly your student decides they can’t do it. We rewrite that story. With a supportive tutor who believes in them, ‘I can’t’ becomes ‘I’ve got this.’
Everything changed for these families.
We’ve had an amazing experience with Alexander Tutoring. Our son is working on 8th grade math to prepare for starting 8th grade in an advanced math program, and the tutoring has done a fantastic job keeping him engaged, confident, and excited about excelling in math. One of the biggest surprises has been how seamless the online tutoring experience has been. Our tutor is in New York, and we live in Colorado, but the distance has not been an issue at all. It has actually been incredibly convenient, especially with our summer travel plans taking us from Hawaii to Virginia. The video sessions work great, and the shared whiteboard makes it easy for our son to follow along, work through problems, and stay actively involved. We’re really grateful for the support Alexander Tutoring has provided and would highly recommend them to any family looking for high-quality math tutoring.
The team at Alexander Tutoring makes it easy for you to find wonderful math tutors and coaches and get the 1:1 attention you want for your child to support their learning. We’ve enjoyed having both Krystal and Krishann teach our students and while kids typically don’t want to spend more time “learning”, they’re never really any complaint before or after the sessions :). That says a lot!
Caleb was GREAT! Our son had an okay grasp of the concepts in AP Calculus, but Caleb was able to meet him where he was and get to shift an okay grasp of the concepts to a complete understanding. As a result we saw a big improvement in our son's grade, and more importantly, our son's confidence grew. He was actually excited to take the AP exam. Thanks Caleb - We could not have done it without you!!!!
Jonathan - I want you to know how greatly appreciated you are in this household. Your kind, approachable and empathetic manner along with your effective teaching skills truly make you a rock star. Thank you for turning the year around!
After 2 years of home school during the pandemic, my child entered 6th grade struggling significantly in math, and it affected her self esteem as well as her engagement in school. After working with Angelique over the summer, she not only started 7th grade feeling confident, but has been excelling and advancing in math classes. Charley also made a strong connection with Angelique and is excited for their weekly sessions. Angelique has transformed Charley’s attitude toward math and ignited a curiosity for more. All the staff at Alexander Tutoring is responsive, engaged, and committed to my child’s experience. I HIGHLY recommend
My son took an accelerated online college calculus class this summer. He knew that he would need a tutor. With the help of Gerald and other tutors from Alexander Tutoring, he passed! Gerald is great and provides a lot of very useful tools that are easy to understand. It is clear that all of the tutors at Alexander Tutoring are handpicked and have an extensive knowledge of mathematics combined with good people skills. My son felt very comfortable working with everyone at Alexander Tutoring. Thank you!
Can't say enough about them! Jonathan has been tutoring my daughter in 7th grade math and she's not only doing so much better in her work-finding that it makes sense in a way she struggled with before-but her confidence level in class has jumped leaps and bounds. She's actually enjoying math! He's very patient and has a way of explaining the "hows and whys" of the problems she's working on in a way that makes sense to her. I really like the fact, as well, that I can contact him any time to suggest material he can cover, or ask questions. Scheduling is accommodating and a breeze and communications-both with office staff and Jonathan are easy and effective. Thank you!!
We engaged the services of Alexander Tutoring for both of our sons with great success. Our 9th grader participated in the summer intensive last summer to review math concepts to feel confident with high school Algebra. His experience was very positive, he was ready to attend every session, appreciated his tutor Charlie, and felt like he was much more solid on an array of concepts. It really boosted his confidence going into high school, which was very valuable. Our younger son received tutoring during this last fall semester for review of concepts he needed more grounding in as a 7th grader. He also had success and gained confidence with each session, enough so he felt he could move forward on his own after winter break. Sean was great to work with when we had scheduling conflicts or illness, and locations for tutoring were convenient. We highly recommend Alexander Tutoring for learning and building confidence.
This tutoring service is wonderful. Sean listens to your needs and makes successful matches of tutors with your student. My son has used this service to help with chemistry, math, and SAT prep, and has gained confidence and motivation. Thank you Sean!
Tyler really helped my 14 year old son with his algebra and his physics this year. Dave was having significant math difficulties and I'm also not proficient in math (runs in family?lol) so I couldn't help, so we we referred by his school to Alexander. I can say that Tyler inspired a lot of confidence in the material and was instrumental in facilitating an improvement that we found to be satisfactory. If your child has issues with math, I am highly able to commend Alexander and Tyler to you for assistance.MikeSF
Sean is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. Our daughter Maya always struggled in Maths, and in 9th grade's first quarter, we realized we needed some serious help for her. First report card scored an low D.Sean worked with Maya, one session at a time, at her pace, giving her confidence and going back to the roots and missed Math notions. Happy to report that Maya's final report card scores a high B, and her Math teacher elected her the MVP of her class. Sean's help has been unvaluable in Maya's progress. Worth every penny! Thanks Sean, you rock!
Sean is someone in whom you can trust your student's academic present and future! He helped our 11th Grade daughter tremendously so far this year, so that she has been able to pull a solid high A in a physics class where the teacher "does not" give A's. Most importantly though, Sean was able to establish a rapport with our daughter so that she could go deeper in her learning and further develop a passion for physics as she mastered the material and learned to feel an ownership of that mastery.
My daughter began tutoring with Olivia in November of her senior year. She was very stressed in her AP Physics and AP Calculus classes and although she attended extra sessions her teachers provided, she became increasingly confused and behind in both subjects. I contacted Sean at Alexander Tutoring who talked with me to figure out which of his tutors might be the best match for my daughter's personality and her situation. My daughter takes a long time to warm to anyone however, very soon after she began tutoring with Olivia, her understanding of concepts improved. Olivia is very patient and an excellent teacher but what was even more helpful for my daughter was that Olivia was willing to dive deeper into a problem, patiently explain it different ways until my daughter understood it. More than once, my daughter told me "wow, I really thought that problem was more complicated than that, why doesn't everyone explain it like that!" Very quickly my daughter became immersed in the world of Calc and Physics and would go to Olivia prepared with questions of new concepts that she did not understand from that week's lessons. Not surprisingly, my daughter grades shot up and she ended the year very successfully however, this tutoring experience had a greater impact on my daughter than her grades. She told me she always thought she was really bad at math and now realizes that she is not bad at all, when she works at it, she can do very well. Her AP Calc teacher has been celebrating her accomplishments for several months now, giving her a big smile when handing back tests to using an unnamed student's work (my daughter's) to explain to the rest of the class how to do a problem. In the spring, my daughter was smiling as she told me she was paired with a girl in class, "the most brilliant girl in the class, near perfect SAT math score etc" to complete some calc problems. They were looking at a new problem and the girl said, "wait a minute, let me get my calculator" and my daughter answered "wait a minute, I've got this." When my daughter completed the problem without the use of a calculator, the girl looked at her with a open mouth and said "How did you do that!" So my daughter does feel more in control of her classes this year but she also feels more in control of her life, challenges are not nearly so intimidating. I can't thank Olivia enough for her patient, intuitive and thorough tutoring and to Sean for running such a responsive and efficient tutoring service that made such an impact on my daughter!
Gerald is the best!! He's always has Nyah's back helping with all the Math! Gerald, you are the best!! You have made Nyah so confident! You are a great professor!!
Alexander Mathematics and physics tutoring is an excellent way to help. My son is in the ninth grade and he was having a very difficult time in algebra, but since he started tutoring he has been doing much better. I can tell you that the tutors are very good, my son has a very good connection with his tutor because he is an excellent person, now my son has more confidence in himself.
As a former online principal and educator from the early days of 'online education' (circa 1996-2008), I can attest to the difficulties of teaching mathematical concepts online (or even face to face). My son is part of the Smack Happy team that developed this website and he sends me links to some completed projects he thinks I'd be interested in...Well, I perused the website and then watched the lesson on how the formula for the area of a circle is derived. What a great way to teach! If this sample lesson is any indication of their skill and passion in tutoring, I can heartily recommend their program.
Thank you Sam for being such and amazing math Tudor!!
Rebecca has been a great tutor for my daughter. She has made great progress thanks to Rebecca's coaching and support.
Ian has been fantastic and we highly recommend him!

Most tutoring gets a student through Friday’s test. That’s not what we’re for.
Your student learns where every formula comes from — so a problem they’ve never seen stops being a threat. They stop asking whether something will be on the test and start asking why it works.
What makes your math and physics tutors different?
Your student works with a practicing mathematician, physicist, or engineer — someone who uses this material professionally, not a college student a chapter ahead in the textbook. We recruit nationally because that’s the only way to find them.
What that means in practice:
- Tutors with graduate-level training and professional research experience
- A derivation-first method — nothing gets memorized that could be understood instead
- Nightly office hours, so homework help doesn’t wait for the next session
- More than 15 years of one-on-one tutoring, with 270+ reviews across Google and Yelp
- First-time A’s in Calculus and 700+ SAT Math scores
Our work in the Denver area spans schools including Kent Denver School, Colorado Academy, Dawson School, Cherry Creek High School and the University of Denver.
Every session is one-on-one and online, which is why it doesn’t matter where you are. We match on subject, personality and interest rather than zip code. If the fit isn’t right, you get another match at no cost, as many times as it takes.
How do you match a student with the right tutor?
Nobody’s first session is really about math. It’s about finding out whether this person is going to make them feel stupid again.
Our tutors are matched on personality and interest before subject — a physicist who races bikes, a mathematician who plays in a band. When the match is right, a student stops bracing and starts asking questions. That’s the moment the tutoring actually begins.
If it isn’t right, you get another match at no cost, as many times as it takes. About 80% of our students click on the first try, 95% by the second.

Do you tutor elementary school math?
Many young students struggle with math not because they can’t do it—but because of a single discouraging moment: being put on the spot in class, getting lost after a school transfer, or just falling behind in a fast-paced classroom.
At Alexander Tutoring, we match students with real mathematicians and physicists who specialize in breaking down complex ideas into fun, accessible lessons. Our elementary sessions focus on:
- Addition & subtraction
- Multiplication & division
- Fractions
- Confidence-building drills and assessments
Once students feel safe and capable, math becomes fun—and progress follows quickly.
Do you tutor middle school math?
Key topics we focus on include:
- Algebraic expressions and equations
- Integers and rational numbers
- Ratios, proportions, percent

- Central tendency & data interpretation
We don’t teach shortcuts. We teach understanding.
Our tutors emphasize deriving formulas and grasping mathematical logic, giving students the kind of insight that sets them apart as they move toward algebra and advanced math.
