About Sam
Math that feels like play.
Sam earned his Bachelor of Science at Northern Arizona University, after an Associate of Arts at Mesa Community College.
He works with younger students, the ones who don’t love math yet. He reads a student’s mood, builds lessons around what they care about (soccer angles, anyone?), and turns long division into something kids call “easy.”

Our 7 year old is doing tutoring with Sam, and he is a legend!! I hear my daughter laughing throughout her lesson, and she comes away more confident in her math skills every time. Alexander Tutoring has been such a game changer for her!
We’ve had wonderful experiences with my kid’s tutor, Sam. I thought my kid wouldn’t be a fan of Zoom tutoring, but they actually look froward to their weekly sessions.
My kid has some hesitation when it comes to subjects he doesn’t know very well. It’s fairly hard to get through to him. Sam, his tutor, was amazingly patient and was able to speak to him in a way that got my kid completely engaged. He looked forward to his tutoring sessions every week - honestly, the learning was a good side benefit. The trick to teaching sometimes is to not seem like you’re teaching - and Sam pulled that off amazingly. It was time and money well spent.
Alexander Tutoring has been life changing for our family. My son had a very old school and persnickety teacher, who couldn’t effectively teach 4th grade math and had all the kids and parents in a tizzy. I first tried a math center near the school but when that made absolutely no difference, I bit the bullet and signed him up for Alexander Tutoring. Not only did he end up loving his math tutor (shout out to Sam!), his confidence and math grades went up exponentially. Working with Sam over the course of his hour, he could do homework, go over tests, practice for tests, or learn new concepts /solidify tricky concepts…the truly individualized nature of the tutoring sessions allowed him to get the help he needed and level up his skills. And the best part is that Sam made it fun!! My son even started to love certain parts of math - long division is “easy” and fractions are “fun.” Alexander Tutoring is worth the cost and more - everyone who works there is awesome and super helpful. They care about kids and families and are skilled at what they do. Alexander Tutoring forever!
Virtual learning is not fun, generally, but Sam always connects well with my son personally and keeps him well engaged. We really appreciate his patience and his willingness and ability to meet my son where he is at in Math.
Alexander Tutoring has made a huge improvement in my 10-year old daughter’s attitude toward math over the past school year. Our instructor, Sam, has a gift for explaining math concepts in a way she could understand and relate to. He could read her mood and adapt the session in response. Over time she went from not particularly wanting to participate to actively looking forward to the lesson. I saw great strides in her math confidence and ability, and look forward to resuming the tutoring in the upcoming school year.
We are thrilled to have found a fantastic math tutor for our 10yo, who does not love math. Sam has a real gift with kids. Here was a recent report from our son:"Mom, I have three pieces of good news. One, Sam is AMAZING! He is KIND, and he understands kids! Two, we finished my homework! And three, Sam also helped me with my writing homework! He knows how to do that!"
My daughter has been getting tutoring from Sam for a couple months now. He is nice and friendly. He explains math well and makes it easy to understand. She now understands math a lot better. He is also very supportive. My daughter always looks forward to the sessions.
We signed up for a trial with Sam for our daughter. He was awesome and we have now signed her up for the entire summer schedule. Sam has a really nice and easy communication style and once he found out that my daughter loves soccer he added a lot of soccer themes to his teaching (angles, corners, distance etc.). My daughter really liked his style and she was more than happy to continue with Sam as her tutor. My daughter is entering middle school and she needs a confidence boost in Math and Sam provided a great platform for that.
