Transformative Math Tutoring That Turns “I Hate Math” Into Ambition

Math is the language of the universe. Most students never hear it that way — not because they cannot, but because the standardized curriculum drilled technique and skipped every reason to care.

“I have LITERALLY watched frustration melt into absolute understanding of the subject.” — Patrick R., Parent

Why students say “I hate math” — and what changes it

Three minutes on the question every student asks, and the answer their curriculum never gave them.

The question every student asks, and the one their curriculum never answers.

When Am I Ever Going to Use Math?

The question behind every struggle

Every student who says they hate math is really saying nobody ever showed them what it was for. This is our answer: math as the language the universe is written in, hiding inside the music they love, the sports they play and the things they dream about.

Watch it with your student. It is the conversation that turns a chore back into a curiosity — and it is where our tutoring starts.

  • Tutors are working mathematicians, physicists and engineers
  • Every rule derived, never memorized
  • Nightly office hours between sessions
  • Full Semester Guarantee — not satisfied, full refund

The Alexander Difference

Passion + Purpose = Empowered

When math serves your student’s passion, it has purpose. When it has purpose, something remarkable happens — they become empowered to use education to achieve their dreams.

Personalized Matching = Student Passion

We start by learning what lights your student up — music, sports, art, science, anything. Then we match them with a tutor who shares that passion and shows them how math is the hidden engine behind the things they already love. When math serves something they care about, it stops being a chore.

“His high school teachers were great, but were not able to provide the depth and level of support that was needed… His grade went from a C- to an A- within the year. He is now averaging an A in a dual enrollment college algebra course, and planning to take college calculus next year.”

— Krystal M., Parent (Google)

Deep Understanding = Purpose

Most students survive math by memorizing formulas — until one curveball on the test sinks them. We teach the why behind every equation, deriving formulas and connecting them to the real world. When your student truly understands the math, they can solve anything a teacher throws at them.

“Tyler helped my son test into Algebra 2 honors, and his math grade went up to an A. Then when we told him he could stop tutoring, he didn’t want to stop — he enjoyed what he was learning.”

— Alexandra N., Parent (Google)

Confidence First = Empowers Students

There’s no such thing as being ‘bad at math’ — only bad math experiences. A harsh teacher, embarrassment in class, one bad test — and suddenly your student decides they can’t do it. We rewrite that story. With a supportive tutor who believes in them, ‘I can’t’ becomes ‘I’ve got this.’

“Being a straight A student, it was difficult to accept her lower grades and it affected her confidence… Within two sessions, my daughter felt more confident in Algebra and her test scores improved. She has gone from a D to a B+ and developed a genuine interest in math.”

— Diana G., Parent (Google)

Alexander Tutoring has been life changing for our family. My son had a very old school and persnickety teacher, who couldn’t effectively teach 4th grade math and had all the kids and parents in a tizzy. I first tried a math center near the school but when that made absolutely no difference, I bit the bullet and signed him up for Alexander Tutoring. Not only did he end up loving his math tutor (shout out to Sam!), his confidence and math grades went up exponentially. Working with Sam over the course of his hour, he could do homework, go over tests, practice for tests, or learn new concepts /solidify tricky concepts…the truly individualized nature of the tutoring sessions allowed him to get the help he needed and level up his skills. And the best part is that Sam made it fun!! My son even started to love certain parts of math - long division is “easy” and fractions are “fun.” Alexander Tutoring is worth the cost and more - everyone who works there is awesome and super helpful. They care about kids and families and are skilled at what they do. Alexander Tutoring forever!

How do you find the right fit? How do you find a tutor that aligns with your goals? How do you find a reliable, effective company? How do you find a tutor who teaches in a relatable way? Well, the short answer is, look no further. You have found them right here. I hesitated for quite a while to find a tutor for my daughter. She is a great student but lacked confidence in math. Starting her freshman year at an academically challenging high school on Zoom was finally what pushed me to seek outside help. She was doing well but still felt like she didn't really "get it". I was looking for the lightbulb to switch on and Alexander Tutoring is doing just that. They believe, as I do, that math is doable and is not impossible. The key is confidence. They believe there is often a "moment" where a normally confident kid suddenly feels like they "can't do math". A bad grade, a bad teacher, and an embarrassing moment. They work to undo that in a supportive, constructive environment. They are well priced, extremely flexible, and have a large enough staff so your kid can find the tutor with whom they jive. They have been doing remote before the pandemic and have it down to a science. And it's one on one tutoring. We love this program and am so happy we found them!

My daughter has struggled with math for a long time and has had many tutors over the years. We started with James at Alexander tutoring the beginning of 11th grade and, for the very first time, she got an “A” in math class. She was so proud of herself! James is kind, friendly and patient and is a great match for my daughter. The entire team at Alexander tutoring is helpful and easily reachable. I am so glad we found them.

Amazing experience!! First, let me just say that Angelique is an exceptional teacher and an incredible person. She connected with my daughter immediately, fostering trust and developing a genuine bond over time. I believe their connection truly transformed my daughter’s strong aversion to math. Her test scores steadily improved—from the 60s and below to the 80s and 90s. Most strikingly, my daughter now actually looks forward to her weekly tutoring sessions. I highly recommend Alexander Tutoring for their outstanding administration, dedicated teachers, thoughtful approach, and easy-to-use platform. What truly sets them apart from competitors is their commitment to understanding each child’s unique abilities, challenges, and personality. This was a key part of the initial assessment process and helped ensure the perfect instructor match. That made a world of difference for my daughter. (Thank you, Jill!)

I cannot recommend Alexander Tutoring enough. From so many angles can I affirm their reliability, spot-on help, expertise in this work, and in particular, expertise with teenagers. As a parent and educator, I am in awe of this team and how they deliver help as though it is on a cloud with a rainbow connected. For students at my school, the communication and feedback is excellent for parents. For me, having a child who doubled up on math and thought his head would officially explode at the pace, the help from Alexander Tutoring has transformed his experience and feelings about math as within his realm. He's talking about math next year as someone who now feels capable and game, all after wondering if he should even pursue higher math earlier this year. They make a difference in kids' and families' lives and believe wholeheartedly in what they do. So glad they exist and wish this for any child needing to believe in their inherent capabilities.

Alexander tutoring is the whole 9 yards in terms of providing student-centered tutoring for physics and math. Starting from making the right student to tutor match by considering personality and learning styles and focusing on the foundational concepts that establish cumulative learning. Our experience with Alexander Tutoring has been nothing short of excellent. In addition to understanding both physics and calculus concepts that have resulted in improved grades (an A in physics!), my daughter has gained a new found confidence and joy that comes from learning and comprehension. I can’t say enough about the individuals on the Alexander Tutoring team who make this possible every week! Thank you Rebecca (physics) Gerard (calculus), Sean and Jill!

Jonathan has been a fantastic math tutor for my daughter during her sophomore year. His calm approach has helped her build confidence in the subject that she once found intimidating. She started the math class without any tutoring, however, she quickly realized that she needed more help and a tutor who could bring her grades up. Being a straight A student, it was difficult to accept her lower grades and it affected her confidence. We heard about Alexander tutoring and thought to give it a try. It was easy to connect with the staff at Alexander tutoring, they were able to match the perfect tutor for my daughter and within two sessions, my daughter felt more confident in Algebra, her test scores improved and she was looking forward to the one hour tutoring sessions with Jonathan. He understands his students and explains concepts in a manner tailored to each student. He is incredibly patient and provided tips on understanding some of the difficult concepts. My daughter had not only improved her grades but also developed a genuine interest in math thanks to Jonathan’s support. We are so grateful to Alexander tutoring team for helping my daughter gain her confidence and helping her score higher grades(D to B+). I highly recommend Jonathan to any family looking for a thoughtful and a very effective tutor.

My 8th grader was so demoralized about math before working with Rebecca. In addition to identifying and targeting her areas of struggle with the school material, Rebecca also worked hard to dismantle my daughter's math anxiety and shame. She built a ton of trust and managed to really connect with a teen who until then had been doing her best to hide her deficits, racing through material too fast, pretending not to care, or shrugging it off as "I guess I just suck at math." Together they worked to fill the gaps left after struggling through the pandemic and remote classes, and get my daughter excited about the subject again. She brought her grade from a C to an A, but more importantly, she's not embarrassed to ask for help anymore. Rebecca is a game-changer. We've also really utilized the skills videos and progress reports provided in addition to tutoring.

I am telling you: If *my* rising 8th grader can do well in math after working with an Alexander Math tutor, anyone will. She worked with Gerald all summer, which she was less than delighted to hear when we told her about it, but she quickly stopped complaining after they started their work together. Last night she told us that she'd like to KEEP working with him once school starts so she doesn't fall behind. What? Thank you Gerald and Sean for giving her the confidence to go back to school this week feeling confident.

Alexander Tutoring is really awesome! Our family and our student are really happy with the results from the summer tutoring program. Our tutor James was very pleasant. He explained each learning objective so it could easily be understood. He was also able to quickly identify target areas and offer educational tools and solutions. The program is very organized and hits the target - to increase interest, confidence, and ability in math. We have completed the summer program and periodically receive follow up lessons to keep our student's math skills on point. Our student is now a high school senior and feels confident in her ability to understand and do math. We definitely recommend Alexander Tutoring to other students who are challenged by math and/or are looking to advance in math. Thanks AT!

The team at Alexander Tutoring makes it easy for you to find wonderful math tutors and coaches and get the 1:1 attention you want for your child to support their learning. We’ve enjoyed having both Krystal and Krishann teach our students and while kids typically don’t want to spend more time “learning”, they’re never really any complaint before or after the sessions :). That says a lot!

When my daughter was looking to go beyond her middle school math class, we were fortunate to find Alexander Tutoring. My daughter worked weekly with her fantastic tutor, Jonathan, throughout 7th & 8th grade. He not only helped her fill in the gaps in Algebra I so that she was able to successfully place into Honors Algebra II for high school (her goal!), but was also super flexible and engaged with her in exploring advanced conceptual math (for example, venturing into trigonometry and calculus, and particularly quantum physics) The online platform, which she was apprehensive about at first, worked really well, and she always looked forward to going online for her tutoring sessions. We would absolutely continue with Jonathan in high school, and I wouldn’t hesitate to work with Alexander Tutoring again to provide support for my younger daughter, who struggles with math, as she heads into middle school.

Alexander tutoring has been a wonderful resource for my son as he navigates high school math. His instructors, Gerald, quickly established a great rapport with him and they were able to get to work right away. My son's grades and confidence improved with Gerald's support. We look forward to working with him in the future as well. We have had substitute teachers when Gerald wasn't available and they were all wonderful. So it looks like you can't go wrong with anyone at Alexander tutoring. I highly recommend this business to give your children a leg up in math .

My daughter was feeling wholly defeated and distressed by her Honors Trig & AP Bio classes. To the point she was considering dropping her STEM-focused hopes for college. She started working with Rebecca and that changed everything. Rebecca identified challenges, shored up her foundational skills, and taught her methods and practices that she could build on. My daughter’s confidence and competency made a dramatic about-face, and her outcomes on both tests and transcript reflect that shift. She feels confident about the upcoming challenge of Physics and Statistics next year, knowing Rebecca, and her colleagues at Alexander Tutoring, are available to support her.

My daughter has been struggling with geometry in high school. We signed up with Alexander Tutoring and she has been working with Gerald. A friend of hers in the same class signed up first and told her, with great enthusiasm, "you HAVE to get Gerald!" My daughter enjoys the tutoring sessions and reports that Gerald is able to explain concepts to her in ways that she understands, and that he also has a sense of humor, which she appreciates. There is zero foot dragging or complaining before her tutoring appointments. My only regret is that we got her started in the spring, when she was already having a lot of trouble, instead of getting ahead of the problem earlier. Her grades are up and her overall attitude about math is much improved. Thanks Gerald!

The curriculum failed your student. Not the other way round.

Teaching high school math, the two things I heard most were “I suck at math” and “I hate math.” Being in love with the subject, I wanted to know where the disconnect came from. It was never ability. Every negative story traced back to an event.

A teacher who made them do times tables at the board. Being called on and praying the ball would not come to them. A sibling who found it easy, or parents who did. After enough of those, math becomes a chore somewhere near cleaning toilets.

Then the Fibonacci sequence shows up in da Vinci, in a sunflower and in a galaxy, and nobody ever mentioned it. Math is nature and nature is math — and when a student finds out it serves the thing they already love, they take the reins. The musician hears the harmonic series in their own instrument. The sports fan reads the statistics behind a manager’s decisions. The gamer learns that physics engines build their favourite waterfall out of Newton’s laws.

What actually changes

Most tutoring gets a student through Friday’s test. That’s not what we’re for.

Your student learns where every formula comes from — so a problem they’ve never seen stops being a threat. They stop asking whether something will be on the test and start asking why it works.

Watch: every level, taught the way we teach it

One lesson from each subject we cover, from fractions to the derivative. Same approach throughout: nothing memorized that could be understood instead.

Understanding fractions

Understanding Fractions

Pre-Algebra — the skill high school math leans on more than any other.

Deriving the quadratic formula

Deriving the Quadratic Formula

Algebra — not memorized. Built, from a square you complete.

Deriving the area of a circle

Deriving the Area of a Circle

Geometry — the formula built from triangles and a limit.

Understanding the unit circle

Pre-Calculus — where trigonometry either clicks or stops making sense.

Understanding the derivative

Understanding the Derivative

Calculus — what a derivative is, before any rule for computing one.

The 8-step method for solving physics problems

The 8-Step Method

Physics — you do not need the whole solution before you start.

If it doesn’t work, you don’t pay. Period.

We’re so confident in our method that we guarantee your results for the entire semester. If you’re not satisfied at the end of the term, we’ll refund every penny. No fine print. No partial credits. A full refund.

No other tutoring company in the country offers this — because no other tutoring company gets results like ours.

The Universe Is Waiting

Your student has everything they need to succeed — they just need someone to show them. Book a risk-free lesson and see what happens when math finally clicks. No credit card. No commitment. Just one hour that could change everything.
