Gerald Morgan is an aspiring young mathematician; career-wise, he has over ten years of tutoring experience and five years of teaching at various colleges.
He noticed his strong love for mathematics at the tender age of eight years old. Though difficult, he welcomed the challenge and enjoyed the sense of accomplishment that accompanied solving each equation.
As the years continued his love for math grew and in high school he joined a program called Cosmos. Gerald would later describe this program as a pivotal point in his academic career. Cosmos expanded Gerald's horizons by introducing him to advanced levels of math that he had not known, peaking his curiosity and persuaded him to pursue a degree in Mathematics. He was able to create projects based on real world mathematics and present them to Nobel Laureate.
During his college days he developed a new adoration for the language of math through coding and mathematical research as a part of an organization called UC leads where he was a dedicated member. Through two summers, he was able to do two research projects, one at UC Berkeley and the other at the University of California, San Diego.
Gerald earned his Bachelors in Pure Mathematics from the University of California Berkeley in 2012 and currently attending San Francisco State University to procure his Masters in mathematics.
His enthusiasm and charisma while he speaks the language of math is apparent and his willingness and ability to share that knowledge is unmatched.

Angelique has had two passions both of which she has been lucky enough to study and work in professionally. The first is teaching mathematics, the second is Opera.
Angelique pursued a Bachelor of Music at SUNY Purchase Conservatory as a classical Mezzo-soprano. She then went on to study speech pathology and audiology. During her continued studies she taught music lessons on the side and this is where she discovered her passion for teaching.
Angelique went on to pursue a rigorous hands-on Masters in Secondary Mathematics Education at the Relay Graduate School of Education while teaching full time at Midwood High School (Brooklyn, NY). Angelique taught Algebra 1 there for 4 years and tutored all levels of mathematics in school from Algebra 1 - Calculus. She also taught Algebra 1 and Statistics last school year at KIPP King collegiate (San Lorenzo, CA) and has moved on to teach Geometry and Algebra 1 at Dewey Academy (Oakland, CA).
As a teacher, Angelique's strength is her ability to connect with her students and her abilities to break down difficult material with multiple representations. She considers herself extremely lucky to do what she loves every day, working with kids.

Having grown up in the Hamptons of Long Island, a physicist is not the first profession that comes to mind. However, Jonathan had developed a passion for science and mathematics at an early age, seeing them as universal languages. He excelled in physics and knew early on that he would pursue it at university. He attended Stony Brook University for its rich and rigorous physics program, as well as minoring in Mathematics.
He joined Professor Marivi Fernandez-Serra on her research team after acing her courses in Scientific Programming and Thermodynamics by the end of his sophomore year. There he learned more advanced programming methods centered around molecular simulations. The team's research focused on simulating icing models of water.
Afterward, Jonathan dedicated some of his time to volunteering and tutoring other students in the Physics Help Room, which he himself had used in previous years. Having had many great professors and instructors, he took the best lessons and helped others. He discovered an ability to communicate complicated subjects in an easier and more understandable approach.
His core teaching principle is that of intuition, focusing heavily on ensuring physics and mathematics come naturally in the thinking of his students.

During high school, Ray was a really good student at math and science. However, because he didn’t know the reasons for learning them, he never really enjoyed taking these classes at school. It wasn’t until Ray found his passion through finances, education, and renewable energy that he began to understand the importance of understanding the basics behind math and science.
Ray graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2016 with a degree in electrical engineering, and then stayed for an additional year to obtain his Masters in Education for science. After teaching for a few years in California, he made his way up to Seattle where he currently teaches high school math.
One of his main goals in working in education and tutoring is to help students understand the importance of finances. Finances tie in really closely with Algebra and related courses, but this topic is usually ignored in a traditional high school curriculum. He really enjoys using topics such as budgeting, saving, and investing to show students the real-life applications of math.
Science has also been a large interest for Ray. He has explored topics related to renewable energy and solar energy in school, which has been something that he brings to his students to help them see the "why" in physics.

James began his career in education while attending college in Wilmington at the University of North Carolina. His name got passed from one of his professors to a local family who was in need of a math tutor for their 3 children. Within weeks of his first lesson, his contact information was quickly passed around town and he found himself running a small business soon after tutoring math to both elementary and high school students.
After completing his degree in mathematics, he took on a position at Cape Fear Community College as a math facilitator. In this new environment, he was able to learn a multitude of teaching techniques from seasoned professors further growing his repertoire of math knowledge. This experience instilled the love of teaching in him for years to come.
In 2004 he moved out west to San Diego and established another tutoring business focused primarily on college-age students struggling in math. While in California tutoring, he also worked as the executive director of a local children's foundation, photography teacher, ESL teacher, and CEO of a condiment/catering company.
James thrives in a one on one teaching environment knowing full well the benefits to the student and teacher alike. He enjoys establishing strong connections, alleviating past anxiety related to math, and keeping his students engaged throughout their time together.
For the past 5 years, he has lived internationally, first in Mexico, and now residing in Taiwan. Still teaching as his primary form of income and loving every minute of it. I graduated from San Francisco State in the Spring of 2020, with honors. There, I specialized in mathematics, while also taking several physics courses. In each semester, I would help other students solve problems and even grade problems for other courses. In the Winter Semester of 2020, I will begin the Master of Mathematics program at the University of Bonn in Germany. I am very interested in pure mathematics, and its applications to theoretical physics. In particular, I would like to investigate the differential topology of banach manifolds and symplectic geometry. After my masters degree, I plan on obtaining my PhD diploma, with the ultimate goal of being a researcher full-time.
My passion for mathematics began in high school - I discovered some olympiad style problems, and was fascinated by the simplicity of some solutions, and the sophistication of others. In my third year of college, I studied abroad in Moscow where I was reinspired to investigate math and physics and eventually obtain a PhD. When I studied abroad, I had the opportunity to assist an advanced group of high school students prepare for the Moscow math olympiad. As a teacher, I learned even more from these problems than I did as a student; I am excited to watch my students develop a confidence and fluency in mathematics.

I am a "late bloomer" of sorts when it comes to discovering my passion for mathematics. I became deeply interested in mathematics while in my sophomore year at San Francisco State University as a Finance major. It was then, through my own independent studies, that I began to realize just how mathematically sophisticated the language of modern finance really is. I changed my major to pure mathematics that semester in order to receive what I deemed proper training to ultimately complete a PhD in finance.
Through my studies I have learned to appreciate just how beautiful mathematics is, and how it is unassailably the most effective tool to study patterns anywhere; from financial markets, to physics, to sports, to just about anything. I believe that the motivation to practice mathematics must be discovered by the individual, and I am excited to watch my students discover what it is about mathematics that gives it purpose to them.
I am currently in my first semester of my MA program in pure mathematics at San Francisco State University and am enjoying the new experience of tutoring. During the last 2 years of my undergraduate, I was a Research Analyst Intern at the San Francisco office of the boutique investment bank Probitas Partners.

My love of science started at an early age when I used to watch Star Trek Voyager with my family. Seeing these women leaders in science inspired me to continue to pursue physics and engineering in my dreams to one day reach the stars.
In college, studying physics for my bachelor’s degree, I also quickly discovered that I also have a passion for theatre. The connections between physics and theatre amazed me as I learned about lighting and optics, sound and waves and even set construction and forces side by side. So I added a theatre major and then wondered how to bring them together. At the time, I was the general physics supplemental instructor and discovered how much I loved teaching and helping others reach the same “AHA!” moments that I had. So, three years into my college career, I added another major of secondary education.
After graduation, I had the opportunity to teach in a variety of different schools around the state of Massachusetts. These schools varied greatly in student demographics and access to proper lab equipment. I quickly learned how to make physics labs with materials you can just find around the house. I continue to love drawing these connections between things we experience every day and the mathematical and physical principles students are studying.
I just recently finished up my Master’s degree in curriculum and instructional design with a focus in STEAM integration (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics). I wanted to pursue something that helped me integrate all of my passions together and did my thesis work on how to apply this to an online learning environment.
I am an avid adventurous soul and I believe that you can learn physics anywhere at any time. I I love to teach my lessons from whatever corner of the world I’m currently exploring (so be sure to ask where I am!). One day, perhaps my lessons will be taught from the stars!
